Children’s author Richard Shore, originally from the UK and now living in Aglish, Co Waterford, has launched a new series of bedtime adventure books aimed at young readers.
The two series, each containing four short stories, feature imaginative tales that combine magical elements with important environmental themes. Shore has pledged to donate five percent of profits from every book sold to Ocean Generation, a charity dedicated to tackling ocean pollution through science and storytelling.
“The stories aim to inspire children by solving challenges using magic or special tools, while promoting care for animals and the environment,” Shore said. He chose Dungarvan Library as the venue to launch his books, describing it as an ideal location.
The first series, Hurrahtum Adventures! Four Magical Tales, follows Poppy, a young girl living by the sea who embarks on exciting adventures with a magical cove and boat triggered by the word ‘Hurrahtum.’ One story, The Tangled Tuna, highlights the issue of ocean plastic pollution and ghost fishing gear, a significant threat to marine life.
The second series, Will’s Wild Adventures – Four Exciting Tales, features Will, who explores a vibrant wilderness and receives help from a magical shed stocked with every tool imaginable.
Each book is priced at €9.99 and is presented in a convenient A5 format. The series is beautifully illustrated by Iqbal Sandy.
