Author Tim Schulz Ends U.P. Book Tour in Ishpeming

by Wendy

Author Tim Schulz wrapped up his Upper Peninsula book tour on Wednesday evening with a presentation at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library.

The tour, sponsored by the Library of Michigan as part of the Michigan Notable Books Author Tour, has brought Schulz to multiple communities across the region to discuss his latest work, A Cast Away in Montana. The book chronicles Schulz’s inaugural fly fishing trip to Montana, blending travel narrative with reflections on fishing and life.

During the event, Schulz revealed subtle references—“Easter eggs”—hidden in both of his books and shared anecdotes from his time as an instructor at Michigan Technological University. He noted that his writing appeals to a broad audience beyond just fly fishing enthusiasts.

“It’s part travel log, part essays about fishing, and I think it has so far been interesting to a wide range of readers—from people interested in fly fishing to those who enjoy stories about travel, life, and dogs,” Schulz said.

Copies of A Cast Away in Montana are available for purchase at Snowbound Books in Marquette, with hopes for wider availability in local bookstores.
