Penguin Books has announced the launch of the Nothing Like a Book weekender, a special event celebrating the publisher’s 90th birthday. Scheduled for July 19-20, the free walk-in event will be held at London’s historic Truman Brewery, with tickets for talks and workshops allocated via a ballot system.
Designed to showcase the diverse impact of books, the weekend will feature two main areas: the Discovery Room, hosting experiential installations themed around the emotional power of books to soothe, empower, and thrill; and the Curiosity Studio, where notable speakers will discuss topics ranging from childhood reading to social change.
Speakers include Jacqueline Wilson on childhood stories, Jordan Stephens, David Larbi, and Ben Hurst on youth navigating digital and real-world challenges, Munroe Bergdorf and Chante Joseph on knowledge as a catalyst for social change, and Bea Fitzgerald with Nadia El Fassi exploring the romantasy genre.
Additional events will take place across selected independent UK bookshops throughout the summer. Supported by partners MOTH Drinks and Crocs, attendees can expect giveaways and surprises during the weekend.
Rebecca Sinclair, Chief Brand Officer at Penguin Books, said: “Our mission is to publish books for everyone. The Nothing Like a Book weekender reflects this, celebrating the ways books connect, inspire, and empower people.”
